PSHE

PSHE & RSE at Stock C of E Primary School

At Stock, our vision is to help every child let their light shine. Through our PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum, we aim to nurture confident, compassionate and respectful individuals who understand their own value and the value of others.

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where they can develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for healthy relationships and positive wellbeing. Our curriculum supports pupils to build self-confidence, resilience and emotional awareness so that they feel empowered to make thoughtful and responsible choices.

By learning about friendships, families, respect, online safety and personal wellbeing, pupils are encouraged to develop kindness, empathy and integrity. They learn how to keep themselves safe, recognise when something does not feel right and know how to seek help from trusted adults.

Through strong partnerships with families and the wider community, we support children to develop a strong sense of identity and purpose. In doing so, we enable every child to flourish, contribute positively to society and truly let their light shine in all aspects of their lives.

Curriculum

At Stock, we utilise a scheme of work called Jigsaw, a progressive and spiral scheme of learning. In planning the lessons, Jigsaw PSHE ensures that learning from previous years is revisited and extended, adding new concepts, knowledge and skills, year-on-year as appropriate.

Intent

Jigsaw holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips us to deliver an engaging and relevant PSHE curriculum within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons at Stock also include mindfulness, allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation. These opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and emotional literacy are integral to children's understanding of themselves and others and to increasing their capacity to learn.

Implementation:

Jigsaw is a comprehensive programme for PSHE and includes statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. Every lesson offers opportunities for SMSC development, clearly mapped and balanced across each year group, alongside structured opportunities to practise and enhance the five skills associated with emotional literacy: self-awareness, social skills, empathy, motivation and managing feelings. We adapt the materials to make them suitable to the needs of the children at Stock.

Impact:

The impact of our PSHE curriculum can be seen as you walk around our school, speak to our children and see the kindness and respect they have for each other and themselves. With the support of our Gospel Values - PSHE & RSE ensures all our children are able to let their light shine.
