Year 6 Trip to Braintree Museum

Year 6 had a really informative and enjoyable trip to Braintree Museum where we learned about life during The Second World War, and especially what life was like for an evacuee.

When we arrived, as evacuees in 1942 to a small farming town from the large city which was experiencing the Blitz, we were met by our new teacher. She immediately taught us what to do during an air raid, including putting on our gas masks (amazing miming from everyone) and finding a safe place to hide. We then had a maths lesson, where we learned to add pounds, shillings and pence, writing, where we wrote a letter home, and singing of the National Anthem. We were then selected by our new families to go and live with them. Following our classroom experience, we were glad to be back in 2026.  We then learned about rationing and tried on some World War 2 uniforms, trying to look for clues as to who may have worn them. After lunch, we had a museum trail, discovering more about life during the War.

The children were attentive, asked some great questions and showed some amazing knowledge when answering.
