Curriculum intent
Curriculum Intent and vision
“Let their light shine” Matthew 5:16 - Affinity, Aspire, Achieve
At Stock, our curriculum nurtures the whole child: spiritual, academic, social and moral, rooted in Christian values and the Church of England’s vision for education.
Core Principles
- Christian distinctiveness
- Excellence for all: high expectations, so every child achieves academically and personally regardless of background or need.
- Broad and balanced: a rich curriculum underpinned by strong foundations in English and mathematics
- Cultural capital and aspiration: purposeful knowledge and experiences to prepare children for life beyond primary school.
- Inclusion and nurture: adaptive teaching, early intervention and pastoral care to remove barriers to learning.
- Community engagement: curriculum enriched by church, family and local community partnerships.
Aims
- To enable children to become confident, resilient and independent learners who demonstrate Christian values in their behaviour and relationships.
- To ensure children acquire strong communication, reading, writing and mathematical skills.
- To deliver a coherent sequence of knowledge and skills across subjects so pupils build cumulative understanding.
- To develop spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) awareness and British values through explicit learning and lived experience.
- To provide memorable, real-world learning opportunities and visits that deepen understanding and aspirations.
Curriculum Intent by Phase
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Build secure foundations: personal, social and emotional development; early language and communication; early reading, mark-making and number sense.
- Play-led, adult-guided experiences linked to Christian values and real-life contexts.
Key Stage 1
- Consolidate core skills: phonics and early reading, sentence-level writing, number fluency.
- Introduce wider curriculum themes (history, geography, science, art, music, computing, RE, PE) with hands-on activities and vocabulary focus.
Key Stage 2
- Deepen domain knowledge and disciplinary thinking: inference, problem-solving, enquiry and evidence-based explanation.
- Progressive subject-specific knowledge sequencing; greater independence, research skills and responsibility.
Remote learning
At Stock, we want every pupil to continue learning, even when they cannot be in school.
1. When school is closed or attendance is restricted
Our aim is that pupils continue learning and stay connected to school during any disruption.
If pupils cannot attend school because of a closure or limits on numbers, we will:
- Provide high-quality remote learning that follows the normal curriculum as closely as possible.
- Use Google classroom, our online platform, to share lessons, activities, and resources.
- Include a mix of live sessions, recorded lessons, and independent tasks suited to pupils’ ages.
- Keep regular contact with pupils and families to support learning and wellbeing.
- Offer help if pupils need access to devices or printed materials.
2. When an individual pupil cannot attend
If a pupil is unable to come to school - for example due to long term illness, recovery from a medical procedure, or other authorised reasons but is well enough to learn, we will:
- Provide suitable work so they can keep up with their learning.
- Adjust expectations based on their health and circumstances.
- Offer regular communication to support their progress.
