Year 1

Class teacher - Mrs Melia

Hello! I am delighted to be your teacher in Year 1 this year. I love teaching young children and I have mostly taught in KS1 and EYFS. You may notice my accent has a slight twang to it and that's because I was born and grew up in New Zealand. I have now lived in the UK for ten years and have enjoyed making a life of my own here.

I love exploring different parts of the UK and Europe when I get the opportunity. It doesn't happen as often as it used to now that my husband and I have a cheeky three-year-old boy called Alfie to run around after.

When I'm not teaching, I love being in the outdoors, going for walks with my family and friends. I also love going to the theatre and seeing live music.

PE days:

Tuesday & Wednesday - on these days children are to wear their PE kit to school.

Homework expectations:

Reading - Children are sent home with a reading pack on a Tuesday which needs to be returned to school the following Monday for us to change the pack. Please read for 10 minutes daily.

Spelling - Children have spelling words to learn each week. Spelling tests take place on a Thursday with new words sent home in a spelling folder each Friday.

Maths - Children will also have a Maths Facts test every Thursday. The children should know what level they are on so they know what type of questions to practise. The information sheet about these tests are in the front of their spelling folders.

Please practice the spelling words and maths facts every day.

Homework 22/5/26:
